Please bring your own roasted blends and individual green coffee components to the course. This program has proven to be very helpful to improve existing products and to develop exciting new blends.
Day One: Blending Theory and Drip-filter Blend Development
Day One of this highly interactive coffee course is dedicated to the development of coffee blends for drip-filter machines and other brewing devices like: hand-pour-over, french press, vacuum-pot, aero-press, Technivorm etc.
We will discuss a fair amount of coffee brewing theory: measuring total dissolved solids (tds), extraction yield, brew strength, temperatures, turbulence.

•Review of tasting language and cupping protocols
•Tasting key components for dripfilter blends
•Triangulation and blind tasting exercises: cupping of various popular “low” and “high” notes
•Cupping of Breakfast blends and darker roasted blends
•Review of roasting techniques for dripfilter blends
•Roasting exercises
Day Two: Espresso Blending Practices
The second day is entirely dedicated to espresso blending techniques and protocols. We start the day by tasting various espresso blends from established, well known roasting companies: Black Cat, Dancing Goats, Hair Bender, Major Dickinson’s and more.
Espresso blends will be tasted as espresso shot and as milk drink. We will do a thorough review of barista protocols for espresso blend development.
Roasting and blending protocols will be analyzed and discussed in detail.

The Art of Creating Blends has the objective to send you home with many fresh ideas and concepts around the challenging task of creating blends for drip-filter, espresso and other brewing devices.
We really encourage you to take your own blends; we can put them to the test during a “blind” cupping.
During the course you will learn the underlying fundamentals of blend creation.
Creating blends is a diligent task of sourcing the right green beans, applying distinct roasting protocols and blending the coffees at the right quantity, with the ultimate goal to create synergies in the cup.
